Dear Intercessors,
“He who dwells
in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed
under the shadow of the Almighty Whose power no foe can withstand.”
Psalm 91:1. Psalm 91 is
called the “Soldiers Psalm”. WW1 soldiers of the 91st
Brigade agreed to recite the 91st Psalm – the “Soldier’s
Psalm” – daily. The 91st Brigade was engaged in three of
the bloodiest battles of WWI; Chateau Thierry, Belle Wood, and the
Argonne. While other units similarly engaged had up to 90%
casualties, the 91st Brigade DID NOT SUFFER A SINGLE
COMBAT RELATED CASUALTY.
A prayer card listing the
aforementioned historical facts and the verse by verse writing of
the 91st psalm was reprinted and distributed to U.S.
Marines in Kuwait during the Gulf War in 1990. After the war, an
Arab evangelist told how the prayer card went from the American
Marines to allied Arab soldiers from Egypt, Syria and Kuwait. One
hundred thousand of these prayer cards were given away to the troops
thereby introducing the Word of God into this region of the world.
On March 11
2008, Brig. Gen. Dana Piccard, Commander of Iraqi Assistance, told
reporters in Baghdad, “there was a period of time when Coalition
forces had to urge Iraqi forces to fight. That is not the case
anymore. They are not only capable of fighting, but they want to
fight for a sovereign Iraq.” One year ago, prayer was issued for
the famous street of Haifa, in the city of Iraq. This central Sunni
district had been the scene of heavy sectarian violence and was
dubbed “Purple Heart Blvd.” by American soldiers. One year later,
the locals are back playing dominoes and drinking chai tea. One man
said, “I feel 100% safe in my neighborhood.” Prayer changes
things.
Pray for the
courageous members of our military…particularly intercede for those
on NEOIN’s April calendar, for full protection, peace of mind and
spirit as they defend citizens in Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea and
around the world. Pray for each one to succeed in their assigned
task, for those in transition, those in recovery and those beginning
deployment to have God’s presence and strength daily. Pray for
God’s grace for spouses and children as they are separated from
their loved ones. Pray for Church communities to care for the
families. Pray for victory for the Allied troops in Iraq and the
return of our troops.
The following
are people of influence to pray for:
Jalal Talabani – Iraqi President since April 2005…He is Sunni and
Kurdish.
Nuri al-Malik – Prime Minister of Iraq since 2006
Hoshuar Zebari – Iraqi Foreign Minister

Carol Engelbert,
Director
