Dear Intercessors,
"The
earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as
the waters cover the sea."
Habakkuk 2:14.
The prophet
Habakkuk may have witnessed the decline and fall of the Assyrian
empire and the rise of the Babylonian kingdom near the end of the
seventh century B.C. Habakkuk realized that God was going to use
the godless military machine of Babylon to punish a godly nation.
The prophet does what we tend to do...he questioned God's judgment
and His ways. God replied that "the just shall live by
faith," chapter 2:4,
and have confidence that God is doing what is right.
The United States of America is in as precarious position as other
nations who have turned their backs on God. Weekly admonitions and
warnings that come from modern day prophets fall on deaf ears. Wars
and rumors of wars abound, and Jesus' words, "And the love
of the great body of people will grow cold because of multiplied
lawlessness and iniquity" (Matt.
24:12), are being fleshed out before our eyes.
We, as God's people, inquire with the Psalmist in
Psalm 11:3: "If the foundations are
destroyed, what can the righteous do?" We resort to
prayer! At the end of March, we completed Seek God for the
City 2008, 40 days of praying "Prayers of Biblical Hope ". We
begin the month of May, celebrating
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER on May 1st,
downtown Cleveland
at the SW quadrant of Public Square. The schedule of events is as
follows: 10 am - 11 am Praise and Worship; 11 am - Noon Declaring
His Word; Noon - 1 pm Prayer for the Nation and 1 pm - 1:30 pm The
Cry for Revival and Rejoicing. We are encouraged to take a
day of vacation for this National holiday! Come and rally with other
believers from churches all over the region to take action and stand
in the gap for our families, community and the nation.
The upcoming day of Repentance and united
prayer, Global Day of Prayer on May 11th, was
birthed in a clear vision in July 2000 to Christians across Africa
then spread across the earth. It is preceded by 10
days of constant prayer,
followed by
Ninety days of blessing; May 12-Aug. 9, 2008, to
bring practical, transformation blessings to communities.
NEOIN's May calendar links us to these prayer initiatives. While on
the Global Day of Prayer website, I discovered the most marvelous
tool of prayer for the 90 days of blessing at: www.globaldayofprayer.com
Then
click on the navy blue bar on the left which says
“90 Days.” Please avail yourself
of this rich resource for prayer and intercession. Intercessor,
Cindy Jacobs, in her new book, The Reformation Manifesto,
states that "we are now ready for a true reformation in our
culture". We are called to 'intercede for, infiltrate and
influence all areas of society so we can fulfill the Great
Commission and effectively disciple the nations."
God bless you as you "Impact the World
through United Prayer".
Carol Engelbert,
Director
